Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the IT Specialist is responsible for supporting Information Technology functions within the Barnes Foundation. This position is charged with leveraging best practices in IT to sustain high quality academic, administrative, curatorial, archival and other operational processes and procedures of the Foundation, including systems administration, user support, web platforms, and integrating technology into the classroom. The specialist measures outcomes against internal goals and external benchmarks. The IT Specialist will collaborate with other departments where appropriate.

Established as an educational institution, the Barnes Foundation carries out its mission by promoting appreciation of the arts and horticultural science, through the preservation, presentation, and interpretation of the collections of Albert C. and Laura L. Barnes.

Celebrated for its exceptional breadth, depth, and quality, the Barnes Foundation’s art collection includes works by some of the greatest European and American masters of impressionism, post-impressionist, and early modern art, as well as African sculpture, Pennsylvania German decorative arts, Native American textiles, metalwork, and more.

Responsibilities: 

Job Specific Competencies: 

  • Support, maintain, upgrade the Foundation's: servers and the services provided by those servers workstations; network systems; phone systems.
  • Supervise the systems backup and disaster recovery activities.
  • Coordinate activities through the Chief Technology Officer to best leverage time and skill sets.
  • Demonstrate advanced problem-solving abilities.
  • Complete assigned projects in a timely and thorough manner.
  • Support Software Developers to design and implement technology integration innovations supporting online and hybrid art and art history courses.
  • Provide DevOps support for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud projects.
  • Create, manage, and monitor systems integration flows for interconnected systems and processes including internal and customer-facing systems.
  • Provide Tier 2 / Server-side support for helpdesk tickets escalated by helpdesk staff.
  • Contribute to business process automation tasks.

Schedule:  4 days week on site/1 day week remote

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Understanding and experience with the use of advanced technology within innovative organizations.
  • In-depth understanding of the Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, desktop and server, including virtualization in the form of Hyper-V.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft365 / Office365 including Teams, Sharepoint, Azure AD / Hybrid AD, OneDrive, Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Experience managing network infrastructure (LAN, wireless, switches, routers, firewall, DNS, DHCP, VLAN, NPS).
  • VOIP telephony management experience.
  • System administration of SQL Servers and a strong understanding of the SQL language.
  • Experience with security management and threat mitigation at all levels of Systems (OS, Email, Database, Antivirus).
  • Experience with systems backup, disaster recovery best practices.
  • Experience with ITSM best practices.
  • Excellent technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to add new technical skills independently and advise leadership on technology trends.
