WURD Radio New ‘Lively-HOOD’ Initiative Offers Philadelphians Access to Jobs, Small Business Resources, Financial Literacy and More!

(Philadelphia, PA) In April 2020, WURD Radio (Pennsylvania’s only Black-owned talk radio station) received $170,000 to support new initiative ‘Lively-HOOD’, from the Knight-Lenfest Local News Transformation Fund – a joint venture of the Lenfest Institute for Journalism and the Knight Foundation.

The funding is a part of the $2.5 million Philadelphia COVID-19 Community Information Fund, announced jointly by Independence Public Media Foundation and the Knight-Lenfest Local News Transformation Fund; to ensure that communities in the Philadelphia area have access to reliable news and information throughout and after the coronavirus pandemic.

Lively-HOOD is an initiative of WURD Radio, connecting Philadelphians to jobs, career readiness, entrepreneurship opportunities, small business resources and financial literacy. Lively-HOOD also offers corporations, nonprofits and others an excellent platform to recruit diverse talent and connect with job seekers looking for work.

Lively-HOOD officially launched on August 20, 2020 during WURD Radio’s annual Founder’s Day – a celebration of the life and legacy of WURD Founder, Walter P. Lomax Jr., M.D. WURD listeners, partners, supporters and clients had the opportunity to hear a live-conversation with Roxann Stafford, Managing Director – Knight-Lenfest Local News Transformation Fund and Sara Lomax-Reese, President/CEO – WURD Radio, as they discussed the importance of local journalism and building/maintaining trust within the most vulnerable communities. Philadelphians can visit www.wurdworks.com for a robust website of multimedia content (video, audio and blogs) and resources on (Jobs, Career readiness, Entrepreneurship Opportunities, Small business and Financial Literacy) to meet people where they are in their journey. Covid-19 has been devastating for Black bodies and Black businesses,” said WURD President and CEO, Sara Lomax-Reese. “Our new Lively-HOOD initiative will leverage all of our platforms — on air, online, WURD TV and social media – to connect Black Philadelphians to critical job and career resources during these deeply challenging times. We are in a moment when our small businesses, entrepreneurs and the community at large need solutions. Lively-HOOD is one of them.”

As Philadelphia focuses on recovery efforts in the “new normal” – we invite our community to reach out, whether you are looking to recruit, partner or sponsor. Please email livelyhood@wurdradio.com for more information.
